Five Random Thoughts on a Friday

1. Even though I’ve been living in my apartment since October, I haven’t put anything up on the walls. I bought the stick-on hooks and everything I need, but I’m just too lazy! For now, my Japanese lantern lights and beautiful wood painting will rest on the floor.

2. Um, new favorite show? Off the Map. Grey’s Anatomy meets Lost with some Matt Saracen (from Friday Night Lights, best show ever) thrown in? Sheer brilliance.

3. I want to keep up with my French (I used to be proficient, though never quite fluent), and I’ve decided to do this in the best way possible: by reading Harry Potter in French. I’m so excited.

4. I twisted my ankle a few days ago, which has put a wrench in my half-marathon training. But it’s getting much better. Note to self: don’t run on old, cracked sidewalks in the dark. It’s just never a good idea.

5. I’m about to start cutting large portions of my Birdie WiP now that I’ve revised my outline and have a new direction I want to take it in. This is always the hardest part of revision for me: I hate watching the word count go down by the thousands. I’m saving all of my cut work in a separate document, though, so it won’t truly be gone!

Happy weekend, everyone! Anyone else becoming a fan of Off the Map? Anyone have any advice on how not to stress out as I cut large portions of my manuscript?

  2. Wow I love the photo of your apartment! A sneak peek into the world of Mer!!! Fantastic!!!

I'm so jealous you know French at all!! I have the cd's and the booklet that helps you but I'm dying to just learn it not so properly!! Reading in French is a fabulous idea!!! Hmm. Something to think about.

Last night the hubs and I watched the spanish channel. I couldn't understand a thing but he was picking up a lot. He also works with a lot of ethnicities where as I do not.

I have no advice on revisions because I myself suffer from major suckage syndrome during those times!

  5. My friend read harry potter in French for that exact reason!

I wish I had advice for you about deleting chunks of your MS. I just went through this same realization, when i re-did my outline and realized about 10 chapters needed to go. You know what I did? I freaked, and started writing a new book entirely. I'm on chapter 2 now =)

  7. You're poor ankle! I hope it's better soon.
I don't know, but I kind of like how the picture looks on the floor with those lights strewn across...kind of haphazard artistry!

  8. Ugh, that's "Your" not "you're". I need more caffeine.

  9. Hope your ankle gets better soon. Stress can prolong injuries too. Just need to relax. I meditate to relieve stress, think I said this before though. Also, funny videos online, a laugh a day and all.

  13. I think it's a good idea to save the parts you cut. It helps me feel less stressed. They're always right there.

That wood painting is GORGEOUS! I love all the stuff you haven't hung yet. ;-) It's okay to take your time with it.

Sorry about the ankle. Running at night is not always safe on the feet.

    Have a great weekend!

  16. Ah, beautiful wood painting and lamps! ;) Editing large portions? I'm still doing it - I've just ditched an entire chapter...sadly it had to be done as it didn't 'fit' with the rest of the story. Deep breath, you can do it! ;)

Psst: And hope your ankle heals soon!
