Five Random Thoughts on a Friday

1. Spring is here! It’s in the 70s and gorgeous outside, which of course means I want to be out there and not inside writing.

2. How is it that I can love pretty much every song by Joshua Radin? He’s just perfect for weekend mornings in pajamas with big cups of coffee.

3. I’m in a bit of a reading slump. Nothing is really holding my attention or tempting me these days. Anyone have a book I absolutely need to read?

4. If I had one superpower, I would definitely choose the power to fly. I mean, you get to travel anywhere you want for free, and what could be better than that feeling of soaring through the air?

5. Is anyone else crazy excited about the movie Little Red Riding Hood coming out? It looks beautiful and fun and perfect for a new guilty pleasure.

Happy weekend, everyone! Anyone have any fun plans?

  1. Joshua Radin rocks!!!

If you like criminal type shows I'd definitely reccommend I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells. I just read it last week and it was REALLY good. Not only was it good but the writing was clean. Since I pay so much attention to the quality of writing now (because I want mine to be better) this is a HUGE compliment.

I'm stoked on Red Riding Hood. It's actually a book as well. I just read that two nights ago. It was pretty good too.

DUDE it's spring??? Tell that to Vancouver weather. This weekend they've dubbed my city a Deep Freeze (I'm not even kidding...though I wish I was!)

  2. Spring is indeed here, I actually *left my house* yesterday and went on a walk! I'm having the opposite problem with reading, there's too much I want to consume-- there's the stuff I have to read for my reviews, I want to get out 'Save the Cat' to finish outlining my WIP and I want to read a bunch of stuff for fun. Craziness. My weekend consists of going out to dinner with my mum tonight, what about yourself?

  3. I love the gorgeous weather outside!!! It leaves me in such a better mood!

Here I thought I was the only one not having a book hold my attention, unfortunately you and I are in the same boat so I can't even give you something!!

Looking forward to dinner this evening!!! Italian sounds delicious ;)

  5. 70 and sunny! LUCKY! We had an ice storm last night and basically everything in the world is closed in Cleveland. I'm giving away DIVERGENT on my blog if you want to try to win that. It's an AMAZING read and won't be out for another three months. REVOLUTION is also good too....have you read it?

  6. Oh yes I'd love to be able to fly! Especially as it would mean no check in queue or cramped seat and bad food to go home :)

I wish Spring would arrived here.

Reading slump killers - YA What My Mother Doesn't Know and Adult - The Help (although you may have read it I think I am the last person in the US to pick it up!)

    Happy Friday

  7. Sorry you're in a reading slump. I recently read Across the Universe and loved it.

70s? We had 60s on Friday, then 20s last weekend. It's raining and in the 40s today, but we're driving into the snow to Maine later. Brrr!

  8. It snowed here last night. Last week we had some days where the highs were in the 60s and 70s, but this week it is much colder.

  9. Totally in a reading slump too. I'm going to library this afternoon because it's rainy and seems like a good day to just peruse the section. If I come across anything good...oh, it's not YA, but have you read Patrick Rothfuss The Name of the Wind? Excellent!

And I'm totally looking forward to Red Riding Hood!!!

  10. I am LOVING this weather and I want to see the Red Riding Hood movie. It definitely might be worth the $9 splurge.

  11. Ugh. It's still cold here in NJ! Send us some of your good weather!

I'm reading An Abundance of Katherines by John Green and Losing Faith by Denise Jaden. Both are really good. I've been in a reading rut recently, too, and AtU is what broke me out of it.

  12. 70's???!!! :p I've got snow, snow and a weekend of snow! Ah, well... and are you having Italian with Jen soon? *jealous* Hope you gals have fun. I recently read "Beautiful Creatures" and really loved it. I also really love Kristin Cashore's "Graceling". And flying as a super power would be awesome ~ :)

  13. I live in Rachele's city so ditto what she said (on REVOLUTION too)! ;-)

  14. The weather's been gorgeous here too. I hope it continues!

Hmmm, I haven't heard of Joshua Radin. I'll have to check him out.

Flying...or teleportation. Either would be a huge improvement to any type of commute around this city!!

Red Riding Hood DOES look good. Nice and dark :D And you're not the only one who's having trouble concentrating on a book. I go through those phases...hate them!

    Cheers!
    Jen

  15. I'm in a reading slump too. I have to find something really, really good to get my attention right now...

  16. Let me know what jolts you out of your slump!

  17. Super speed like The Flash. Definitely.

As for reading, my biased opinion is The House on the Corner, but that is a totally biased answer, since I am, you know, the author. However, if you want something light and engaging, I would suggest The Dresden Files. They surprised me. Not deep or anything, but a lot of fun.

  18. Ugh, I'm in Chicago where we're still facing gray skies and cold temps. Yuck - I need spring!! Books - I really enjoyed ROOM recently, though it isn't YA which is the genre I usually gravitate towards. I'm currently reading Freefall and Matched - I'll let you know how they go:)

  19. Loving the Spring feeling. We had a really fab, blue skies and sunshine day on Thursday and I spent most it outdoors, strolling around town. I haven't heard about Little Red Riding Hood, but so glad I know now, shall keep an eye out for it.

    Have a lovely weekend! ;-)

  20. As you slip into Spring, we're slipping into Autumn here. It's quiet and grey and rainy today--and I'm listening to Joshua Radin!

I'll pick one of my favourite books of last year to recommend--I adored WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON.

  21. Ah, springtime :D

I'm in a bit of a book slump too, so I'm rereading an old Sarah Dessen (Someone Like You) book. Fingers crossed it puts me back into reading mode :)

  22. I'm embarrassed to admit, I scoffed at the idea of a movie about Little Red Riding Hood. Now that I've seen the trailer I'm soooo going to see that ish!

Do you only read YA? If not and you like urban fantasy/fantasy, I highly recommend tackling Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. I couldn't stop reading it once I started. It kind of became an obsession.

  23. Have you read Hex Hall? I really enjoyed that one, and the sequel, Demon Glass, is coming out in March.

  24. I'm experiencing 70's weather, too.

Have you read The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson?

  25. It's been in the 90's here. OO it did get down to 87.
