Pajamas and Horror Movies

Happy Halloween, everyone! Here are five things that make me happy about this awesome holiday:

1. Candy. Definitely number one. Especially the candy I get half-off at the store the next day.

2. Costumes. I don’t tend to dress up (in college, I mainly viewed Halloween as an excuse to wear pajamas to class and tell people “I’m asleep” when they asked what I was dressed as), but I love seeing the things people come up with. Literary costumes are the best.

3. Horror movies. I occasionally like being scared out of my wits, I guess. The scariest movies to me are the ones where humans are the villains, because I can more easily convince myself that it could happen to me. Have you seen The Strangers? DON’T.

4. The whole concept of trick-or-treat. Whoever came up with the idea that you can just go to someone’s house and demand candy is genius.

5. The fact that it’s the start of the whole holiday season. My season lasts from Halloween until the first week of January, and it’s the best time of year. Filled with baking and holiday shopping and pumpkin spice lattes and birthdays and all good things.

Have a great holiday, everyone!

  2. Happy Halloween to you!

I don't think I've ever gone trick-or-treating (I came to the US at the ripe old age of 11 and decided that I was too mature for Halloween) -- but yes! I love how Halloween is the beginning of the holidays season, which is my favorite season of the year.

  4. Happy Halloween! I must say I've seen some great costumes this year, and I love fancy dress but for the past few years I never seem to do it at Halloween? Odd, but maybe next year I'll make up for it =]

  17. Happy Halloween right back at you!

Agreed on liking the costumes-- I dressed up over the weekend for the first time since I was a kiddie. I *may* have gone the bad route of sexy instead of scary or super original, but I feel no shame.

  18. Happy Halloween! I love trick-or-treating too. It's even more fun now that I can take my son around!

  19. We didn't have trick-or-treating in England. My kids were horrified when I told them that yesterday. My 11 yo doesn't want to go this year because he thinks he's too old. I didn't even start to go trick-or-treating until I was his age--once we move to the US. And then I only did it for two years.

  20. I, too, think literary characters are the best. So much more original. And yes, this does start off the holiday season--the best time of year. Great food and music and things to buy. Can't wait. Happy Halloween!

  21. The strangers was frightening, I agree. I don't like movies like that - they keep me awake at night LOL. I do, like old school horror films though. I love the scream movies - not as realistic:)

  22. It's funny because I prefer the scary movies where humans are the bad guys, because they can be stopped. You can't kill a ghost. But The Strangers freaked me right out.

And I love this time of year, too! It's the best!
