Random Thoughts: Christmas Music and Chai Lattes

1. It’s finally, officially Christmas season! One of the radio stations in town is playing only Christmas music, and my car rides are thus exponentially more fun.

2. I’ve developed a new method to ensure I reach my word count goals: I’ll go the coffee shop in the evenings, keep my laptop unplugged, and write until I run out of battery. Since I usually listen to music as I write, this means I write for about four hours straight. And since I’m not much of an evening writer, this is nothing short of a miracle.

3. For at least an hour of that four hours, though, I’m people-watching. I love my little hipster coffeehouse!

4. Chai lattes are my new favorite drink. They’re like pumpkin bread in a cup, only better.

5. I’ve become enmeshed in the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty. How have I not read these books before? They follow Jessica from high school to the real world after college, and that is the perfect age range for me. Plus, Marcus Flutie? SWOON.

Happy Friday, everyone! Anyone have any fun weekend plans?

  1. A pile of books is waiting for my attention, including, but not limited to, Across the Universe, Divergent and Wither. And maybe a dinner thing.

Dig your new writing method. I was reading AtU in Starbucks yesterday (and discovering I must move on from gingerbread lattes-- they're too *something* for me), and it was so much more fun than reading at home. I do that *all* the time-- it's more funner in a cofee shop.

  2. An excellent plan to get yourself writing. I should try it.

I love chai lattes. They have a nice spice to them.

Happy weekend! I'm visiting my dad in Maine.

  4. I haven't heard Christmas music on the radio yet. Not even Bebier's new song.

I wouldn't get far with that battery trick. Our one laptop has enough power for one minute, even "fully" charged. Fortunately the battery for our new laptop does last four hours. :D

  6. And you had me at Chai Lattes!!! I LOVE them! I got hooked on them after I returned from India. Until then, I never liked Chai. Guess my taste buds were forever altered after India...

Enjoy writing in your coffee house! What I wouldn't give to have one in our town. Hmmm, maybe I'll petition to have one of our five hair salons turned into one!!

    Happy Friday!
    Cheers,
    Jen

  7. I've been listening to Christmas music for a few weeks. My children ask for it right after Halloween, and I oblige.

I'm glad you've found a writing spot that inspires you. That's fab!

  8. What a great idea! I wish my computer had enough battery power to sustain that haha.

And Chai Lattes -- YES. My mom told me there is a place in the East Village that sells them for a dollar. I was so excited, but have yet to venture all the way down there. I get too lost!

  13. Oh lucky you and the four hour laptop battery life! Mine lasts about 1.5 hours MAYBE. It's super old, and I can't listen to music on it anymore. It's pretty much Word documents only now. haha.

I haven't heard of that series, but I'll definitely be checking it out now :)

  15. Don't you just love when you discover a series that sucks you in? I love it when it's already been written and I'm late to it - I hate waiting on the next book! I spent the weekend rewriting my little heart out. More on the agenda tomorrow. Oh, and I had a run in with a bag (yes, an entire bag) of See's Scotchmallows. Um, two pounds lost last week gained back in a weekend. Chocolate and marshmallow and thick, rich caramel - I couldn't stop. :-/ Hope you had a great weekend!
