1. I went for a walk yesterday. Just because the weather was beautiful. I listened to a playlist I’d created for the protagonist in my new WiP and puzzled out some issues I’d been having with her character. And now I want to take a walk every day, because that was such a wonderful way to be productive.
2. I went to a debate among candidates for US Senate this week. It was part of my new resolution to become more engaged in politics and current events. And it was actually very entertaining (especially because several candidates…well, didn’t give the best performance).
3. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is free on Thursdays. I love just wandering around the rooms for an hour or so, stopping on whatever catches my eye. A perfect way to spend an evening.
4. I now have a box for all the random sentences or ideas that I come up with, usually in the middle of the night. I write them down on scraps of paper and then throw them in the box, hoping they’ll be useful someday.
5. I made the mistake of looking at Pinterest.com. If I ever joined that site, I would never be able to stop reading—there are so many amazing posts on there!
Happy Friday, everyone! Anyone have any fun weekend plans?

I love #4 - what a fantastic idea! As for #5, I have two words for you: Run! Fast! I like Pinterest a little too much, and I tell you, it's a total time suck. Great ideas, but be prepared to spend WAY too much time browsing. :-)
ReplyDelete#4 is amazing!! Such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteAnd I did join pinterest, and after about two weeks of ignoring everything but that website, I knew I could never visit it again. (although I probably will)
And walking is a great way to brainstorm character ideas!
1. Oooo lovely. Where did ya go walking?
ReplyDelete2. I want to go to a debate! That sounds so exciting.
3. A free day? Too cool. I need to see if my city does that.
4. What a great idea. Go through it must be fun.
5. So easy to get addicted to Pinterest.com. The DIY section gets me every single time.
I haven't gotten into pinterest. I already have way too much on my internet plate. I'm afraid I'll have no free time left if I get involved.
ReplyDeleteMy sister is addicted to pintrest. ADDICTED! I've never joined either, because I don't need one more time suck :)
ReplyDeleteHA! My problem with Pintrest exactly! I've been there once and FOUR HOURS LATER I logged off. Wonderful site but scary in how it sucks time right out from under you.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a character play list! I've thought of creating one of my story itself. I think that's what I'll do this weekend!
Happy Friday,
Jen
Lovely productive walks are awesome! Glad you got some issues worked out! And Pinterest is evil...ly delicious...hard to stay productive with Pinterest lurking on the internet.
ReplyDeleteThat box of random sentences is so cool! You need to show it to us sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI'm staying away from Pinterest. I can't handle any more websites that will distract me!
I like the idea of taking a walk and puzzling out character issues.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any big plans. I hope to get my 2-page paper for school done + some writing.
Pintrest is one of my favorites! They have the best ideas for my dream home...one day:) And I've got to say, I'm a little envious you can enjoy nice walks in Texas when it's supposed to sleet and snow here in KY tomorrow:( Enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteI love pintrest. I hear a lot of writers use it to pin thing that go with what they are writing about.
ReplyDeleteI looooove Pinterest. More than I should. I use it for keeping writing inspiration stuff in one place.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of walking and thinking -- I think it's a little like ideas in the shower, in that partly, they just show up because you can't wander off and start doing something else that distracts you!
Walking... now that does sound like a good idea :)
ReplyDeleteYour walking and musing sounds like it was fun and productive, win-win. You'll have to let us know if your box of random sentences and ideas leads you to write something or come up with a new twist in your WIP!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I'm going to finish Creep (so good!) and obsess until I hear back from someone. That second part probably doesn't come under fun weekend plans, but there we go. Also need to figure out some goals for February.
Walking and music and art museums and Pinterest - what fun! I recently read a great post about using Pinterest to create an inspiration board for your WIP.
ReplyDeleteI received my Pinterest invite, but now I'm afraid to sign up. It looks like an awesome site and I don't want to spend too much time on it.
ReplyDeleteI work through many story ideas while I'm walking.
4. What a lovely idea, Meredith! I'm usually too lazy to write down those middle-of-the-night ideas ;)
ReplyDeletewhat great, inspirational things to do! I love making a WIP playlist and getting inspired. Works for me every time. But also visiting the museum! And oh, I joined Pinterest, too. Total time-suck, but you can make a board for your WIP, and THAT makes all the difference~ :o) <3
