1. I read Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi this week, and I loved it! She’s created such a fascinating world and a captivating main character. As well as some truly swoonworthy scenes.
2. I really need to stop watching Grey’s Anatomy. I can’t stand all the gory surgeries, and half of the characters annoy me. But I still can’t wait to see who hooks up next. That’s a valid reason to watch a show, right?
3. I’ve been working on a schedule of 4,000 words per day this week, and it’s doing wonders for my new WiP. Turning the Internet off while I write has been a big help.
4. How have I not been watching Suburgatory until now? It’s a TV series about a girl and her dad who move from NYC to the suburbs, and it has one of the most authentic teen voices on TV. And crazy mean girls and their even crazier moms. I love it.
5. I’ve been wanting to go to an art gallery reception. One of my fave activities when I lived in New York was to go to Chelsea on Thursday evenings with friends and hop from gallery to gallery, sipping free wine and pretending we understood modern art. I miss that.
Happy Friday, everyone! Anyone have any fun weekend plans?

4k a day? Nice! Is this the British book? *fishes for details* I would love to be able to miss that kind of New York lifestyle. Or to have it. A girl can dream!
ReplyDeleteMy weekend plans are sadly lacking. I'm expecting a transatlantic phone call I really don't want to take, but if it doesn't come then I'm just going to anticipate another midnight wake-up when I actually have work the next day, which would be worse. Blergh.
But to look on the positive side, I'm reading a good book, and I'm going to browse my TBR list to reserve some more. Books make everything better!
Ugh, I hate it when I get to that stage in a show where I'm not really invested anymore but I'm so afraid to miss something. My favorite show used to be Fringe and now it's really tanking, but I CANT STOP WATCHING lol. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteOoo I've never been to an art reception. Sounds so hip :)
ReplyDeleteI've never watched GA. Seems like too much drama for me.
What other shows do you watch?
Oh wow, on the word count. Not even in my wildest dreams. But I think I might do better if I unplugged my internet in the basement while working on my first draft (it's too easy to plug it back in if I just unplug it from the computer). I'll try that today.
ReplyDeleteMan can Tahereh write!!! At first the crossing out of phrases bugged me, but then her writing started to appeal to me. The voice made all the difference. I loved the book too. :D
That's a great word count! My goal is 2k a week I think... but I haven't written much this week at all! EEEK! And I gave up on Grey's Anatomy long ago. Too much annoying-ness. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I LOVE Grey's Anatomy, gory surgeries and all! But some of the characters do irk. Very much so.
ReplyDeleteShatter Me sounds great, I really have to get hold of it!
Shatter Me definitely has some swoonworthy scenes!
ReplyDeleteAnd wow, 4k a day? Nice! I'm hoping to get in more writing time once classes start up in a few days, since I'll have a couple of free hours before & between classes this semester. Might as well do something enjoyable and productive during that downtime :)
I have really been wanting to check out Suburgatory too. It looks really good.
ReplyDeleteAnd I loved going to Gallery Hops when I was in college. You should find one and go!
4000 words a day is awesome. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you liked Shatter Me. I'm looking forward to reading that.
I haven't seen Grey's Anatomy in years. I stopped watching when Sandra Oh got stabbed in the stomach with the icicle. When a show gets too ridiculous (I have some believability line) I stop watching it.
ReplyDelete4k words per day? You are amazing!
There is just so much to comment on here lol :D 1) I think SHATTER ME might be my next read; 2) I couldn't get into GREY'S because I didn't like most of the characters, especially Meredith; 3) Good for you with the awesome words/day count! I think you might have something with the whole turning of the internet thing...; 4) Isn't SUBURGATORY funny? I totally got sucked in too :) Happy Friday!
ReplyDelete-I've been working myself up to watch Grey's since O'Malley's death, and I'm still in mourning.
ReplyDelete-Suburgatory sounds great. I'll have to check that out.
--And 4K per day? Gah girl. That's great!
Happy Friday :)
I have a weird attachment to Grey's too. But I like most of the characters. I have a love hate relationship with Gossip Girl that sounds more similar to you and Grey's though. Most of the characters annoy me and do things that piss me off, but I can't help but keep watching it.
ReplyDeleteSuburgatory sounds awesome! I've never heard of it but now I will go investigate!
Good luck on your huge goals, but I know you can so do it!
Can't wait to read Shatter Me too. Sounds great. Have a good weekend!
Hi there! Shatter ME had me reconsidering all my lamo metaphors--heh heh!
ReplyDeleteSuburgatory is pretty funny. And I'm dying to read Shatter Me. It totally sounds like my kind of book.
ReplyDelete4,000 words per day! You are a writing rockstar. And SHATTER ME was awesome! :-)
ReplyDeleteI forgot that Shatter Me came out - so guess what just went onto my weekend plans list??
ReplyDelete4,000 words per day? You rocked it!
What? Free wine and galleries? I live downtown. How have I never heard of this?????????
ReplyDeleteI love Shatter Me! And wow, 4,000 words a day. You're my hero.
ReplyDeleteI've heard such good things about 'Shatter Me'. Must check it out . . . happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteNah. I only have a Jane Austen book that needs reading. :-D
ReplyDeleteOh how I love going to art museums and pretending to understand the modern art. I usually get several people to pause and look at what I'm looking at, trying desperately to see what I claim to see :D
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous weekend and I'm cheering you on with that word count per day! Awesome!
Jen
Oh my goodness. Gallery reception sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteI finished Shatter Me earlier this month and you're right about everything you said. Great voice, good world building and even better love interest!
ReplyDeleteI think Suburgatory is hilarious. My husband doesn't share my feelings though, so I end up watching it alone.
Patrick Dempsey...Mmmmmm :)
ReplyDeleteSarah Allen

Suburgatory is pretty funny. It gets better every week, I think.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the writing!
I broke up with Grey's Anatomy a couple of seasons ago because I got fed up with the on again/off again thing with Meredith and Derek. They are NO Ross and Rachel!
