Things that make me happy, even on a Monday:
1. King Cake. Yay for Mardi Gras and all of its baked goodness! A slice of king cake is a wonderful way to start a morning, especially with some strong coffee.
2. The first signs of spring. I've seen a few robins hopping about, and some azaleas around town have even started to bloom. So excited for some temperate sunshine days!
3. How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr. I love all of her books, but this one is so wonderfully heart-wrenching and true. It's about a pregnant teenager and the family her baby may be going to, and the voices have drawn me into the story completely.
4. 50/50. Have any of you seen this movie with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen? I actually loved it, even though I really didn't expect to. Funny and emotional all at the same time.
5. The soreness of muscles after a good long run. I've finally got back to running after a week of sickness, and I can't believe how much I missed it.
Happy Monday, everyone! Anything making you happy this week?

I will happy when I can get into the habit of running. I need it. And that Kings Cake and coffee sounds so good right now. YUM!
ReplyDeleteMy Monday blog post is about something that made me very happy - and that I didn't expect to like! The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. It's a story about two kids with cancer. Amazing! Love love love! And my muscles are sore after running again this week too - there is nothing better than that feeling!
ReplyDeleteRe: 50/50 YES. Oh my gosh, the scene in the car after JGL drives? I cried *so hard*, it was just so raw. Amazing acting. And the book in the bathroom with the notes was so adorable and such a great way to deepen the character. Can you tell I haven't had anyone to speak to about this movie? I'll shut up now!
ReplyDeleteMaking me happy: impromptu room rearranging after randomly deciding to give away a sewing machine table I wasn't using (except as a display surface...); three decent nights' sleep; finally finding replacement ballet shoes for a 4yo pair that had holes in the sole and sexy new heels; finishing two books in one day. Phew.
I love that you make me remember to show gratitude, Meredith. That makes me happy, too.
Oooh King Cake sounds good, what is it?
ReplyDeleteI love your happy monday posts, they always make me smile and I need some cheer as my son and I enter day 5 of the cold/cough/sickness bug - yuck!
Mmmm King Cake! I need to go check the break room at work as we always have one here.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO psyched for the weather to get warmer, it's been way too cold for Texas!
And I LOVED 50/50. I wasn't sure what to expect from it but it blew me away. Joe G-L is an amazing actor.
Well it looks Spring went to visit you guys while Winter decided to settle in here. Everything's covered in several inches of snow this morning. It's pretty but I'd take birds singing and sunshine over this right about now :)
ReplyDeleteYeay for running! Glad you're feeling good about that. AND I head 50/50 was good, but been putting off seeing it because I don't expect to like it, but since you had the same feeling I'll reconsider...
ReplyDeleteMardi Gras! I miss it. They don't know Mardi Gras up here in the Ozarks, and it makes me a sad sad girl.
I need to read Sara Zarr. I've heard great things about her books.
ReplyDeletewatch out for #1! I came back from a king-cake filled MG weekend having gained like 10 lbs! :D j/k but you know. Since you're getting back into the running. I have, too, and shew! I've been sore~ :p <3
ReplyDeleteMy tulips are popping up! They'll keep growing for another month and a half, but it's great to see them in the garden.
ReplyDeleteI've got to look up King Cake. I have no idea what that is!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling better Meredith! And I love Sara Zarr!
ReplyDeleteNever had king cake... but I like cake in general! And strong coffee. Speaking of running, I am starting this week. I MUST get back on the exercise bandwagon.
ReplyDeleteI so wanted to go to Mardi Gras when I was in college. Living in the South it seemed like a rite of passage. But I was practical and didn't go.
ReplyDeleteHave you read CLEAN? It's a super contemporary YA.
KING CAKE!!
ReplyDeleteJust about a week ago, I found the baby in the King Cake here at the office! He sits with my at my computer every day and gives me luck. (At least, I hope he is. Otherwise its just creepy)
YES YES YESSS! And paczkis too!!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what King Cake is, but it sounds good!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen 50/50 yet. It's been on my list forever, but I probably won't get to it until after the Oscars.
1. Can you believe I've never tried it? I must change that. Did you buy or make yours?
ReplyDelete2. I can't wait for spring. I usually love winter but since I can't take my little baby out in the cold, I'm itching for warmer days.
4. I keep hearing 50/50 is totally awesome. I gotta see it.
